Writer's Horoscope #1

Steve:
This is a very good horoscope for writers. It's so good that it doesn't matter if you find it months after I posted it. It's still just as true!

I'll bet you didn't know I had special powers. It's a fact! When they think I'm not listening, all the time I hear people saying I'm "Mental."

Remember, it must be true. You read it on the internet!

Aries (March 21 - April 19) - Your sign is entering the House of the Rising Associate, so it's a good time to consider your agent status. Remember, having an agent isn't the same as having a career. If the former isn't leading you to the latter, why do you need an agent? (Or at least this agent.)

Taurus (April 20 - May 20) - You like money. Who doesn't? You like to be busy. Who doesn't. But it's no good to have money and no time, or time and no money. Seeking balance will lead you to a happier life. But while living for today, remember you also have to plan for tomorrow. Yes, it's contradictory. Embrace the confusion.

Gemini (May 21 - June 20) - Your sign is uncertain. Only a fool signs a bad deal, but right now might not be the time for hard-ball negotiations on a sale you can't afford to lose. Also, keep an eye on your deadlines.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22) - Like the turning of the stars all things are cyclic. Things are going to turn around for you. Be patient, but also be persistent where it's appropriate.

Leo (July 23 - August 22) - Remember, everything is negotiable, and your negotiating skills may soon be put to the test. Maybe you think that's why you should have an agent, but if so, your thinking is too limited. Consider carefully what you really want, and don't be afraid to ask for it. Just, be prepared for some inevitable compromise. While waiting for an answer, this would be a good time to pick up an old favorite book and figure out why you really like it. The information could be useful in times to come.

Virgo (Aug 23 - September 22) - There are no unbreakable rules in this business, but that's no excuse for being stupid and stepping on people's toes. Be professional. Everything works better that way.

Libra (September 23 - Oct 22)
- There might be a coming lull in your schedule. When contracted work is hard to find, it's a great time to initiate new writing projects and finish old ones that are cluttering up your space. It's not wasted time it you're doing R&D for the Next Big Thing. Turn the slowdown into an opportunity.

Scorpio (Oct 23 - November 21) - So what if your sign is a big, cranky, bug? There's just no stock in holding grudges. The publishing world out there is smaller than think, and your friends and your enemies are likely to remain close, no matter if you want them to or not. Use that energy for something productive.

Sagittarius (Nov 22 - Dec 21) - Writing to conform to a particular genre or trend when you don't feel it is almost always a bad idea. But you'd be foolish not to write for some kind of audience. Start with writing for yourself, and you may be surprised how many others share your tastes.

Capricorn (December 22 - January 19) - You've got ambition and drive, and that's great. You shouldn't let others slow you down, but be careful you don't step on others unnecessarily or cruelly. You never know who will be able to help you (or hurt you) in the future.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 18) - As a water sign, seek professionally to be a calm pond, and not a raging sea. This is no time for panic. Reason, drive, and patience will see you through this trouble.

Pisces (February 19 - March 20) - Don't worry. Money isn't everything. Take pleasure in your work, and your work will give you pleasure. (And incidentally, with time, it will also give you rewards. Bonus!)

If this is your birthday: The year ahead will hold challenges, but let that distract you from your path. Don't waste time or energy worrying about things you can't control, and focus on the many things that you can. Gloom and doom achieve nothing. Remember, times of change are also times of opportunity. Be ready when it comes your way and you'll be rewarded. That big break is out there. Keep looking for it!
